Moving SharePoint Services

Today I needed to move our SharePoint site to a different server. A quick google pointed me to stsadm and these two sites. It took a few attempts to get working, the 2 issues I came across were:

  • Source server had SharePoint Services SP2 applied, destination server didn’t
  • To get security settings to transfer, -includeusersecurity needed to be included in the command

STSADM is located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN

In the end, the commands I ran where:

  • On the source server
STSADM.EXE -o export -url http://cck5 -includeusersecurity -filename C:\sharepoint.cab
  • On the destination server
STSADM.EXE -o deletesite -url http://cck1
STSADM.EXE -o createsite -url http://cck1 -ownerlogin domain\administrator -owneremail administrator@domain.com -title "CCK Intranet"
STSADM.EXE -o import -url http://cck1 -includeusersecurity -filename C:\sharepoint.cab
